Why I chose a friend was they would have items of their own and it would help double the food and intake.
I chose a dog because it would help me hunt and catch fish

A knife to hunt and cut
A Fishing net so I could catch fish 
A Tent for shelter. 

. Deserted - meaning a abandoned place, no civilisation there.

The learning power I would need is courage.
